New Iranian Ambassador Appointed to China as Focus Shifts Eastward

Mohsen Bakhtiar, former Deputy Minister for Planning and Economy in the Ministry of Energy, has been appointed Iran's new ambassador to China. Before his assignment, Bakhtiar met with Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian, who emphasized the importance of relations with Asian countries, particularly China.

Amir-Abdollahian called for the full implementation of the 25-year comprehensive cooperation program between Iran and China, and the execution of agreements made during President Ebrahim Raisi's visit to China in March.

This highlights Iran's foreign policy focus on strengthening ties with non-Western nations, particularly China, as part of its broader geopolitical strategy to counter Western pressure. China has also played a role in facilitating the restoration of diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia.
